Two people were killed in a crash involving a school bus and a utility service vehicle in Tennessee on Tuesday, authorities said.
Children were aboard the bus when the crash occurred on a highway in Meigs County, but it was not immediately clear if any of them were among the dead, WTVC reported.
The school bus was on its afternoon route at the time of the wreck, the Meigs County Board of Education said in a statement to the news station.
“At present all families have been notified and children have returned home with a family member or were taken to area hospitals for treatment,” the statement read, indicating at least some of the students were injured.
Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke reacted to the crash on Twitter.
“I’m deeply saddened to hear the news coming out of Meigs County this evening about a serious school bus crash,” Berke wrote.
“My thoughts are with these children and their families. Until we have more information, we will hope for the best and keep them in our prayers,” he said.
