Newly released video in the wake of the fatal collision involving former Raiders star Henry Ruggs shows a man begging for help for Ruggs.
Earlier this month, Ruggs pled guilty to felony DUI causing death, stemming from a car crash in 2021 in which Ruggs slammed his Corvette into 23-year-old Tina Tintor, who died as her car became engulfed in flames.
Las Vegas police released video of what happened as they encountered the two cars.
As officers got out of the car, Tintor’s car was on fire, and Ruggs’ was totaled.
A man approached the officers and said, “I know somebody’s probably in there,” referring to Tintor’s burning vehicle, “But this is Henry Ruggs right here.”
An officer told the man to calm down, but he pressed on.
“He plays for the Raiders. He needs help ASAP,” the man said.
Ruggs was standing outside of his car as this was unfolding.
Explosions from Tintor’s Toyota could be heard in the video.
As the investigation took its course, police said that Ruggs was driving 156 miles per hour seconds before the collision.
A blood test revealed that he had a .16 blood alcohol level, twice the legal limit to drive in Nevada.
Ruggs had been drinking at TopGolf prior to the wreck.
With his guilty plea, Ruggs will face 3-10 years in prison.
He spent the year and a half prior to the guilty plea on house arrest, which does not count as time served toward the minimum sentence.
“The family appreciates privacy during this time of mourning,” Farhan Naqvi, an attorney for Tintor’s family, said in a written statement after the guilty plea.
Ruggs was released by the Raiders soon after the accident.
The Raiders had selected him 12th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Alabama.
In 20 games between 2020 and 2021, Ruggs caught 50 balls for 921 yards and four touchdowns.
