A North Carolina mother who allegedly gave meth and heroin to her teen daughter faces upgraded murder charges after the girl’s fatal overdose.
According to Crime-Online, Onslow County mother Nancy Kellum, 37, faces upgraded murder charges in the fatal overdose of her daughter Haylee Wood, 14.
Wood died in February from an overdose and Kellum was arrested after officers were unable to resuscitate the teen girl.
Authorities also allege Kellum gave drugs to a 12-year-old relative.
On Tuesday, police in North Carolina announced that they upgraded a woman’s criminal charges to murder in February’s overdose death of the woman’s 14-year-old daughter.

Police said the heroin the mother gave to her daughter that allegedly caused the overdose murder was laced with fentanyl.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, according to the CDC.

Police allege that Kellum also gave her daughter methamphetamine, according to NBC affiliate WITN.
Medical examiners ruled that Wood’s death was caused by a combination of heroin, meth and fentanyl.
Onslow County deputies say a mother has now been charged with murder in her daughter’s fatal overdose.

Kellum was initially charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, according to ABC affiliate WCTI.
She had been ordered held on $300,000 bond at the time of her arrest in February.
As a result of the murder charges filed on Monday, bond has been removed.
The mother accused in the overdose murder of her daughter remains jailed.
Detectives received the medical examiner’s autopsy results, which indicated the cause of death was a lethal combined overdose of Fentanyl, Heroin and Methamphetamine.

Kellum is due back in court later this month on the new murder charges in the overdose death of her daughter.
It is not clear if she has retained an attorney available to comment on the charges.
It wasn’t immediately clear what became of the young relative Kellum is also accused of giving drugs.
Kellum was arrested on Nov. 2 without incident after they received a warrant for her arrest on murder charges.
Kellum surrendered herself to Onslow County Sheriff’s Office and she was transported to the Onslow County Detention Center under no bond.
