A Montana mother of four was found dead in a storage facility on Sunday after having been missing for more than a month, police said.
Sally Jane Demaris Smith, 52, was found in her vehicle after last being seen on Sept. 2.
Police initially thought that she was driving to Malta, Montana, which is roughly three hours away from Great Falls, according to a statement released by the Great Falls Police Department.
Authorities said they would release more information on Smith’s cause of death pending an upcoming autopsy.
“The Smith family would like to thank the community of Great Falls, GFPD and all law enforcement who were assisting and all of the folks on social media who were determined to find Sally,” the Smith family said in a statement.
“She was loved and adored by thousands, this we know. The overwhelming support and concern to all of the prayers is a testament of how beautiful of a person she was.”
Smith worked as a speech and language pathologist at the Great Falls Public School District.
Many coworkers and parents of kids that Smith worked with also praised her character on social media.
“Sally single-handedly gave my son a voice when he didn’t have one before, she gave him the courage to speak out and be expressive at his very young age,” wrote one parent.
“We loved going to see Sally every week. My son would yip and yell and hop and jump and clap just knowing he was on his way to see Sally.”
