One of the Indiana high school students who survived a car crash that killed two friends on the way to prom said the horrifying episode will be with him until the “day I die.”
Jaxon Smith was sitting in the back seat heading to the Hamilton Heights High School senior prom when he was injured in the two-car wreck Saturday night in Hamilton County.
“I am lucky enough to be sitting here today and I’ll never forget this. This will be with me to the day I die,” Smith told news station WHAS.
The crash killed two of his friends, Lendon Byram and Kalen Hart, the outlet reported.
“They were just good people and they didn’t deserve what happened,” Smith told the outlet.
Smith and his girlfriend were able to escape the wreck, but he said he has little recollection of the evening.
“I remember bits and pieces of the accident, I remember certain sequences,” Smith told the outlet.
“I don’t remember the sequence that led up to the crash. I don’t even remember taking our prom pictures before.”
Smith said that he’s grateful to have made it out from the accident.
“This is a God thing,” Smith told the outlet. “I shouldn’t be walking today. I shouldn’t be talking to you right now. But I am. God has a plan for me. I don’t know what it is yet.”
