Georgia officials on Friday announced there will be a recount of votes in the crucial Peach State with less than 5,000 ballots remaining and Joe Biden leading President Trump by the razor-thin margin of 1,098 votes.

The final result may be delayed until the end of November, said Gabriel Sterling, Georgia’s voting system implementation manager, plunging the 2020 presidential race into further uncertainty.

“Right now Georgia remains too close to call,” Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger told reporters at a Friday press conference.

“Out of approximately 5 million votes cast, we’ll have a margin of a few thousand,” he said, adding that the focus of his office was on making sure every legal ballot was counted.

“As we are closing in on our final count, we can begin to look at our next steps. With a margin that small, there will be a recount in Georgia,” he said.

The ruby red state is now leaning toward Biden after the former veep made huge gains overnight as officials counted mail-in ballots from the Atlanta area, which skews Democratic.

Biden is currently leading in the Electoral College 252-214 and Georgia’s 16 electoral votes would put the Democratic nominee just two votes shy of capturing the White House.
