Brazil was five minutes away from the 2022 World Cup semifinal on the strength of a beautiful goal by Neymar in extra time.
Then, Croatia happened. Bruno Petkovic buried a goal in the left corner off a counter-attack with at the ‘116 mark to even the score at 1-1.
Croatia then does what they seemingly does best, dominate the penalty kicks. All four of their attempts were buried in the back of the net, while Brazil missed on two of theirs.
The game was scoreless after the opening 90 minutes with Croatia content to sit back on defense and stymie the powerful attack of the World Cup favorites.
Croatia, who defeated Japan in penalty kicks in the first round of the knockout stage, now awaits the winner of Netherlands and Argentina for a semifinal matchup.
