Thursday night was as heartbreaking of a defeat as it gets for the Giants, somehow losing 22-21 to the Eagles. It is now seven years without a win in Philadelphia. The Giants blew a 21-10 lead in the final five minutes, dropping to 1-6 and last place in the miserable NFC East. To break down the frustrating loss, we bring you a brand new episode of the “Blue Rush” podcast with Lawrence Tynes and Paul Schwartz.
The guys open up the show getting into the Evan Engram dropped pass. Does a lot of blame go to him for the loss? Was the game over if he makes that catch? Tynes is still laughing from Daniel Jones tripping over himself and continues making funny videos of the play. What exactly happened to the Giants’ QB there? Engram’s reaction after the big drop seemed emotionless. The guys would have liked to see him curse or let out some frustrations. Should Big Blue try to deal Engram before the trade deadline? What has been his issue this season? They get into the defense making mistakes, the bad penalties and the Carson Wentz dazzling throw to Boston Scott for the go-ahead touchdown. The Giants lost to a team decimated by injuries. This was a game they had to win. The guys wrap the segment talking about why the Eagles will probably end up winning the division.
Longtime NBC New York sports reporter and anchor Bruce Beck then joins Tynes, Schwartz and I for a wide-ranging interview. We start with the loss by the Giants and what the team’s locker room feels like with Joe Judge at the helm this season. We then get into Beck’s career on the New York sports scene as he shares some memories over the years. He gets into the worst locker rooms he’s been in after games, the Giants 2002 wild-card game collapse in the playoffs against the 49ers with the bad snap and covering the Super Bowl Giants teams. Beck gives advice for having longevity in the media industry and the importance of trust and building relationships. He talks about this time period being the worst for New York sports since he started in the 80’s and whether he ever got into an altercation with a player.
