In the midst of rumors regarding Kyrie Irving‘s desire to be traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron James appeared to send a message Monday night on Twitter.

King James posted the following tweet, which inevitably caused a stir on social media:

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently reported that Irving asked Cavs management for a trade so he no longer has to play in LeBron’s shadow.

James and Irving have enjoyed a great deal of success together over the past three seasons, leading the Cavaliers to three consecutive NBA Finals and their first championship in franchise history.

On Monday, former Cavaliers general manager David Griffin appeared on ESPN’s The Jump and praised Irving’s handling of the situation:

“He handled the situation exactly like he was supposed to. He went to [Cavs owner] Dan Gilbert privately, told him that he thought he would be happier somewhere else. The absolute worst thing this guy could have done was pretend to be all-in and sink the ship from within. Most guys don’t have the courage to do what he did.”

Although any player on the same team with James will inevitably play second fiddle, there is no denying the impact Irving has had on the Cavaliers’ recent run.

He was especially strong last season, averaging a career-high 25.2 points per game during the regular season before upping his production to 25.9 points per contest during the playoffs.

Per Windhorst, Irving expressed interest in the San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat as potential landing spots if the Cavs trade him.

Cleveland has no obligation to do so, however, as he is under contract through 2018-19 before a player option in 2019-20.

  1. Such a halfhearted attempt at submerging a slight by James is just one more sign that Cleveland had better stop trying to play the “WER’RE GOING TO PUNISH FIRST, FOR ASKING FOR A TRADE” game with Kyrie and get this cancer cut out of their team body sooner rather than later. There is no stepping back from this and the longer Gilbert/Cleveland delays this inevitable trade, the more damage will be done to what remains of this Cavaliers team. You can blame Kyrie, if that’s your sway, but James can just as easily be blamed, for his incessant “I’M THE DADDY” persona toward these grown men. That type of thing will never play well with men of the Black American culture, no matter what the stature. Add to that, Kyrie’s obvious resentment of Cleveland’s front office for locking him into that 5 year deal, just days before bringing back James to take over his team leadership roll and you have a young man seething from day one of this arrangement. Have any of you went back and reviewed Chris Bosh’s assessment statement on what it takes to play along side James and what you will have to be willing to give up in your game?
